Helios’ Astrological Angle on Venus in Capricorn– Good golly miss molly… I did not intend to make this post political but with how the election in the U.S.A overshadowed everything else, it is impossible to not address it. Venus wouldn’t let me do otherwise. This is deadly serious, and it shows that it takes place in the backdrop of Capricorn. Regardless of where you stand on the political spectrum, we have a result, and the fallout was immediate- There are consequences for what has happened. Already there are reports of racial violence, violence against women, the lbgt+ community, and it is the citizens doing it to each other. With our new President-Elect, there is a sense of uncertainty and fear that we have not experienced before. All bets are off, and no one knows exactly what is going to happen next.
Capricorn is about results and consequences; Venus is how we get along, day to day- everyday people living their lives. She is Peace and union, coming together (in all senses of the term). This election showed deep divisions in our country, in our circles, and our families- We tore ourselves apart and deepened those divides. Now we have that issue to contend with, and on top of that a huge section of our country that is afraid to even go outside, to live their lives and get along. They live in fear of deportation; in fear of being beaten up, raped or lynched. There are massive protests in cities throughout the country on an unprecedented scale. There is no coming together, in fact we are wrenching ourselves further apart. There is hate and vitriol on both sides, and sometimes on the same side. This is not spin, this is fact. These are the consequences of what has happened and where we are now. Venus in Capricorn is this reality, like Mercury in Libra was post- 9/11.
Those are the immediate results, but the legacy of this will be even more far-reaching. The long term economic and social consequences we can only imagine, but there are crucial issues that are upcoming that affect far more than just this country. We live on a rapidly warming planet and the keys to the kingdom are being handed over to someone who wants to dismantle our Environmental Protection Agency and has pledged to ignore the terms of the Paris Agreement. He will be armed with our nuclear arsenal and will use it with the slightest provocation. Foreign policy will collapse, and any country who he doesn’t like will just stop receiving aid in the form of food and money.
We got here because a large section of the country was scared, and they did not like the direction we were going as a group. They felt their needs and concerns were getting swept under the rug and that they were not being heard. Now there is a reversal of those fortunes. We also got here because the political machine enables someone who more people vote for to still lose, because of archaic rules and a fear of allowing people to decide their rulers for themselves. Ironically, that same system is the last defense against this bleak future, set up specifically to prevent someone from abusing it in the way that it has been abused. I do not hold out hope that it will be used in the way it was designed to.
When we look to what shape the future will take, the most common reaction I hear is shock and terror. We just freeze up, as it is something we never dreamed of and do not know how to process it. The Gods are not coming back to save us, nor was their will done here. We did this to ourselves and it is our mess to clean up. Winter is coming, and we are not prepared.
Artemis Tarot Take on Venus in Capricorn-
Cards: 4 of Pentacles, 5 of Cups, 4 of Wands
Why frigid? We must remember that Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, and thus restriction is the key word here. This restriction from our lovers can come in many ways. Venus revolved into Sagittarius hoping for some relief after an extra intense Venus in Scorpio season, but she was met full force with Saturn who has been sitting in Saggo for some time now. This rifted something between all of us – it can be seen macro and micro. Love has been wrenched from us and pulled away kicking and screaming into the night. Will there be relief, we ask? Will the restrictions end?
Nope. Now she enters Capricorn, so the Saturn influence is still with us. How are you being restricted from your loved ones? This could be via distance, a break up, unforeseen circumstances that severed your connection, etc. Love is, to people right now, a utility. What can I get from you? Don’t take what I have because it’s not enough for even me! We are hoarding every little drop of love we can get, and lamenting about all the ways in which it has been taken as of late.
But hey, when god closes a door, a window is opened. Or something like that, right? So if your lover can’t just walk in your front door, it’s time to have them climb up the side of your house and shimmy into your window like High School all over again. In other words, get fucking creative. Capricorn may be about restriction, but Capricorn is sensual (remember, she is EARTH, and the most senior of the earth signs). There is something sexual about the restriction, about not having, about pushing away and having the distance between you and your lover. This new perspective may in fact show you where the real strengths of your relationship are. Causes for lamentation will become causes for celebration soon enough when you realize there are a billion ways to love someone.
Oh it’s that NEED that Capricorn wants. It’s the “I will fight through everything to be with you,” mentality. Remember, Capricorn is about security. How can she, in the kinkiest ways possible apparently, secure the fact that you you really do want her? Sometimes this involves some fucked up games of being an ice queen, but that is NOT the way to go with this transit. If you come up against this type of energy, there are many sweet, warm ways to thaw it out. Even from a distance. The sun is billions of miles away yet it can scorch the earth. The love from the distance makes Capricorn comfortable (they are so insufferably uncomfortable all the god damn time), so it gives you your chance to move in slowly as this transit progresses. Hell, from this distance you may finally notice some things you fucking hate just as much as new things you absolutely love. So consider all of this a gift, in some weird ways.
For those of you attempting to restrict yourselves from relationships you DON’T want after noticing what psychos they are (oh you will really get to see the psychos come out this transit), this is your muthafuckin’ chance. Ice Queens Capricorn and Aquarius are the next two signs that Venus will transit through, so if there was a time to severe a love connection it is now – some point before the end of the New Year.
But hey, either way, after some heart break, tears and rage, this transit’s ability to help us distance from our sources of love will allow us to either come back extremely grateful for them or finally realizing that they are a god damn waste of our time.
