Vesta in Virgo: Dedicant

“We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.” –Plato

Effective Dates: July 18th- September 18th

Helios’ Astrological Angle on Vesta in Virgo– What matters to you? Like, what keeps you up at night and fills up your mind? Whatever the answer, Vesta in Virgo is knocking on your door and she wants to know why you’re not doing something about it. The asteroid goddess of Service, Faith, Dedication, and Sacrifice is moving into her home sign of Virgo (fight me on it, astro-nerds) and boy howdy are we going to hear about it. Vesta in Virgo is NOT humble- She is passive aggressive, and she will make sure it gets known exactly what she is doing for us, and how ungrateful we are for her efforts. It’s weird, in her home sign she turns into a Southern European/Balkan state mother armed with guilt and a frying pan.

Vesta demands that we get to work on her best day, telling us to quit whining and just do the damn thing (it takes twice as much energy to work and complain as it does to just work!) but in Virgo, she elevates it to an art form. Not just any mindless drudgery will do though- Vesta wants some soul-stirring, reason-for-living type of work. More importantly, you know exactly what you should be doing in this life, the answer that immediately comes to mind when those trite questions like “If you had a billion dollars and could do anything, what would you do with your life?” but it’s never the answer you say because it sounds dumb or you don’t think that it is feasible. Well, guess what, Vesta wants you to start doing it.

Have you considered that your job is to lead others, showing them how to do what you want to do, and show them it is possible to do what you love? When doing anything remember that actions speak louder than words, so recognize that you are setting an example for others.  Inspire forward movement in those you lead, don’t make demands. Ignite the passion of others to tap their seeds of genius. Don’t burst onto the scene with an agenda that may be threatening, rather come with humility and show up the others with your actions instead. This is what Vesta demands.

The downside of this transit is that Vesta in Virgo can lead us to hermit, and hide away from the world. It can be easy to retreat within ourselves, and stick ourselves into a rut- then we don’t have to think or act on anything but our base desires, our first order needs. Vesta wants us to look beyond those, and beyond just ourselves, and engage with the world on a deepening level. Work with Vesta, and she will work with you.

Artemis’ Tarot Take on Vesta in Virgo (Hermit, 4 of Cups, Page of Cups)-
Most of the issues we have are because we treat people the way we want to be treated and not the way they want to be treated.  “But wait, Artemis! Isn’t the saying to treat others the way that you want to be treated?” Well, I would consider that rather horrible advice, because the way that I want love expressed toward me is surely not the same way that everyone else wants it expressed. People’s needs to feel respected and loved and extremely different from one another. I have had partners and friends who have wanted to be left alone when they are upset and have known others who want to be chased and smothered no matter how hard they push back at you. Each individual has their own language, and picking up on those intricacies is the most important part about being a true and devoted servant to others; to help instead of to enable or even inflame the situation.

Most of the time we live in our own bubble, serving ourselves and desperately clinging on to our personal fire like it will somehow become extinguished. The thing is, your persona, your fire, can never be extinguished unless you are the one to grant it permission to die. Until you have lost everything in order to serve something greater than yourself, then you will always fear never having enough or somehow losing yourself. Until you come upon a situation where you think you will lose yourself and yet you still remain, you will hold on to this inane fear. And when you fear never having enough, you fear giving. You fear serving. You fear abandoning yourself; that somehow everyone will suck all the resources out of you and you would have allowed yourself to perish. You do not trust the universe to provide. You do not trust that you are serving a path that will provide for you.

But listen, Heretics, your body wont let you extinguish yourself quite that easily. We have these amazing mechanisms in place that warn us when we are starving, that urge us to drink when we are thirsty, that scream for us to breathe when we need oxygen. You need to trust that you will be provided for if you serve. We are the mechanisms the world has in place for itself, to thrive and to live, and we must behave instinctively to keep humanity’s fire alive, just as your body behaves instinctively to serve you and keep your fire alive. Serve something greater and you will find yourself coming back to life, realizing the world mirrors itself and inspiration floods your consciousness once again.

Haha love it!!! Agreed – Vesta is definitely Virgo! Natally I have her in 8th house Leo! So my Vesta lessons were definitely about learning humble service, without the need for any outward acknowledgment or recognition, while still being able to feel a sense of pride-self worth internally for who I am.

Vesta’s definitely my girl for sacred service! Also Sacred sexuality of the spiritual kind! Tending the harth of the soul, mine and also quietly theirs’, spiritually, instinctually lead in that ability to transform someone without the “push”.

    Cheers – Shane :)))
