TNO Watch: Praamzius

Helios on Praamzius– Heretics, we are in the home stretch of the Transneptunians- I only have three left to do. This is one of those times that I never thought I would see, almost ten years ago now; Getting to the end of these. Additionally, I’m about halfway through the centaurs and have tackled most of the cool asteroids. I still have many more to do, but it feels good to get to this point. Almost… fated, one might say….

The Astronomy– 420356 Praamzius is a trans-Neptunian object and possible dwarf planet in the Kuiper belt, approximately 200 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 23 January 2012, by astronomers Kazimieras Černis and Richard Boyle with the Vatican’s VATT at Mount Graham Observatory in Arizona, United States. Praamzius is a cold Classical Kuiper belt object with both a low orbital eccentricity and a low orbital inclination. It has an orbital period of 13.08 years (4,778 days). With an eccentricity of 0.00324, Praamzius has one of the lowest eccentricities of any trans-Neptunian object, and a more circular orbit than any major planet (including Venus, the least eccentric planet at 0.007).

Its orbital radius is near, but not actually on the 3:5 resonance with Neptune, with both period and radius being slightly too large to achieve an exact 3:5 ratio. This could be due to any of several reasons, e.g. their apparent relationship being merely coincidental and Praamzius a typical non-resonant cubewano instead of resonant, or an artefact of librating cycle centred on 3:5 and currently on the longer/wider limb of its oscillation around that, or due to it exhibiting some more exotic resonance such as 7:12, 10:17 or 17:28 which are better fits for its observed track.

The Myth– Why I have hesitated with doing him is that there is so much confusion and a lack of information on this boi; but as I’ve never allowed that to stop me before, let’s see what we can dig up, hmmm?

Praamzius is described as the omnipotent ruler of time, the inescapable fate. The sky and the air, water and all live creatures had to obey him, with none exclusion even for other deities. All decisions made by Praamzius are inscribed in stone and thus is no escape from them; while ordering the present, he is aware of both the past and the future.

The chiefly ritual addressed to the supreme God was performed during the winter solstice. The importance of this ritual especially increased by the time agriculture became known and was cultivated. The rites permeated with archaic totem, animist, symbolic imagery would continue for twelve days associated with the twelve the twelve months of the year. Together with rites addressed to the supreme God, souls of remote ancestors from the other world were paid homage to. In Lithuanian religion, just as it is the case with other religions, the trinity of gods is known: Perkunas, Patrimpas, and Pikuolis. The most prominent among these gods was Perkunas, the master of the atmosphere and the “waters” of the sky, as well as the fecundity of flora, human morality and justice. Besides the supreme God, Perkunas occupied perhaps the most important place in the Lithuanian divine pantheon. Under the influence of Christianity, the supreme God’s image was transformed and Perkunas acquires the position of the Lord of Heaven.

The major imagery representing Perkunas is of zoomorphic character, while later on, it becomes anthropomorphic, sometimes retaining certain zoomorphic attributes. Perkunas used to inspire awe and punish people, thus he was often called the “god’s scourge”. He was supposed to punish by throwing at the culprit his stone axes, that often had symbols of the Sun and lightning. People knew then how to turn away Perkunas’s wrath. The second god was Patrimpas. He was supposed to bring the spring, joy, peace, maturity, abundance, as well as to take care of domestic animals, plowed fields, and crops. Sheaves of corn, amber, vax, etc., were offered to him during the rites. The third member of the Lithuanian divine trinity was Pikuolis, otherwise called Pikulas. He was the god of the underworld, all kinds of evil and death. When presented in horizontal and vertical lines, the divine, trinity of the Aestii corresponds to the model of universal space, i.e., the sky, the earth and the underworld. The analogy may also be seen with the time recurrence: adolescence, maturity and old age, or otherwise, spring, autumn, and winter.

Why He Matters– Okay, so there is no doubt in my mind that Praamzius is important in terms of the Transneptunians, but how does he impact us so far away on earth? Well, the myth gives us a… Uranian figure (for lack of a better term), cold, distant, and indolent- yet still chief above all. This brings to mind Altjira, for one. In fact, there are pieces of Praamzius in all of the Transneptunians, I see the supremacy of Varuna, the creative spirit of Quaoar, the time displacement of Teharonhiawako…. In that regard, I am going to put forward that Praamzius is a potential trigger for the Transneptunians, a marker for those who are affected by the outer planets. Some people stick out like a sore thumb for the outer Cold Ones, but so many other people can weather a transit for a Transneptunian with no ill effects. I would posit that Praamzius prominent in the chart is a potential marker for a person who is subject to the whims of the planets past Neptune.

Alliterative jokes aside, I have to address that Praamzius is also a focus for questions of Fate. Now, I personally refuse to accept the power of Fate, as it contradicts my views of personal choice and the power of the individual; but if we cast this in the light of cycles instead, he becomes much more palatable. For instance, I am staring down my first Saturn Return, and it is going to be a doozy. I have known it is coming, and short of a surface-to-space missile to blow up the bastard, there’s no stopping it. This could be considered “fated” however I see it as a 29-year cycle that can be tracked and planned for. Cycles happen like seasons, and Winter will always turn to Summer, and then Winter again. So much of humanity’s growth can be attributed to understanding and making the most of these cycles, and the study of Astrology depends on it. Therefore, I would additionally say that Praamzius is a marker for astrological understanding, like Urania.

Sometimes, however, you run into those who refuse to accept the natural order, and break cycles that should not be broken. You see people try to cheat death and squeeze extra time from the universe. This has been a common trope, but recently the show Altered Carbon highlights what could happen in a world that is run by literal immortals, people who treat bodies as “sleeves” for the consciousness- inserting chips containing their memories, experiences and their souls. Praamzius rules this too, and the struggle to escape the clutches of time is so, so human. We would all kill to live forever, but is it really worth it? Time will tell, I suppose…,

To find out where he shows up in your chart, go to astro.com, put in your birth details and in the extended options, all the way at the bottom of the next page, there will be a menu of additional objects. Under that is a blank space where you can enter the number 420356, for Praamzius. Once you have it entered, generate the chart! Where does Praamzius affect your life? • Thanks for this investigation. He’s conjunct my vertex in my birthchart (and my livelihood is about examining the astrological cycles with my clients and coaching them through them -go figure). I notice Saturn wasn’t blown up, so I hope your recent return went smoothly! haha
