Uranus in Taurus: Utopia

“Perhaps the greatest utopia would be if we could all realize that no utopia is possible- no place to run, no place to hide, just take care of business here and now.”  Jack Carroll

Effective dates: May 15th, 2018- July 8th, 2025

Helios on Uranus in Taurus– *phone alarm blares in a messy apartment on a sleepy morning* (Helios grunts unintelligibly, slams snooze button) *second alarm set 2 minutes after the first alarm blares* (Helios swears in a dead language, throws phone at the wall) *third alarm blares* “GODDAMNIT, FINE! I’m up already! God….” *Checks now-cracked phone, sees all the missed ingresses and love messages* “Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu…..” *Helios brews coffee, wipes sleep dust out of eyes, yawn that becomes a sharp inhale* LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WE MADE IT! We are officially in Uranus in Taurus! Pat yourselves on the back, you deserve it. *looks at watch* Okay, that’s enough- it’s time to get to work now.

So, here we are- Uranus, the planet of Advancement, Humanity, Technology and Abandoning Your Family has switched signs, and we have a whole new age to fuck up in now! He (for the ultra-purists, yes Uranus is non-binary but uses the male pronouns, so suck it) has officially moved into Taurus, the slow-moving sign of stubbornness, comfort, and resistance to change. Now these two are not natural fits for each other, but all is not lost- they do have common ground, and we can make this work if we are willing to try.

Let’s talk the big stuff first- When it comes to technological advancement, Uranus in Taurus doesn’t exactly bode well. Taurus tends to resist change and gets comfortable with the way things are. It’s like a millennial teaching an octogenarian to use a computer, which is always an easy process and requires absolutely no patience whatsoever. There are two ways I see the next two years going- Either tech advances to the point where it is just so prevalent that it is commonplace, as we as a people get more and more comfortable with it; Or a Luddite anti-tech group gains the spotlight to try to get us to go back to being medieval farmers. Now, these aren’t mutually exclusive and its entirely possible that one precludes the other, however, I lean more to the former. The crucial thing will be if technology can become even more common domestically. Anything that promotes accessibility and free use will be prized by the end users.

Speaking of free, let’s talk Taurus’ favorite topic: Money. Now, Uranus will change the way we think of money and the way we define value- I’ve been saying this since I was on Astrogeek’s Skywatch, for chrissakes! The obvious culprit that literally every astrologer has latched onto is Bitcoin. You can’t FIND an article or video that doesn’t drone on about cryptocurrency with Uranus in Taurus. Now, my gut tells me that in the end, it won’t be bitcoin specifically that we end up with. It’s too early to call it, the system is still in its infancy. Global finances are going to vacillate wildly for the first three years and will cause havoc. I would definitely bank on another global recession. This will only increase austerity agendas, and the inequality gap will grow further. Religious conservatism will grow, but extremist nationalism based on hatred will slow. It will shift more to outbursts over lack of opportunity and financial stress. Venezuela is an early example of this.

Look to this transit as when we start seeing the effects of climate change rearing their ugly head. We already have islands starting to be swallowed up by the sea, and the questions of what to do with their populations are unanswered as of yet. The good news is, this opens up an entirely new economic field for climate change solutions and disaster management (read: big-ass building projects) if we are smart enough to actually get off our collective asses and start doing something about it. I’ll bet that this won’t happen until Uranus in Gemini though (when Neptune moves into Aries!), and by then it will be far, far too late.

So that’s the big stuff, what is completely out of our control- but what does this mean for you, personally? Well, first off I want everyone to grab a copy of Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations (click the image, it’ll take you right to it, and it supports me!)

“But Helios” you inevitably cry “What does an old book by a long-dead Roman emperor have to do with us living in the 21st century?” Well, whiny internet commenter, I’m super glad you asked. See, Marcus Aurelius was one of Rome’s “Good Emperors”, who it was said, “… had no need of praetorian cohorts, or of countless legions to guard them, but were defended by their own good lives, the good-will of their subjects, and the attachment of the Senate”. Their rule was a time when “the Roman Empire was governed by absolute power, under the guidance of wisdom and virtue”. Marcus ruled Rome at its height and was the best man for the job. I personally love him because he was a Stoic who wrote heavily on self-mastery and rule of the self. He valued peace, self-sufficiency and living within your means. Some of his quotes:

Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.
You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.
When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.
The universe is change; our life is what our thoughts make it.
Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one.

We do not need the warrior as an icon anymore, that is soooooo Uranus in Aries. We need an Emperor to show us how to conquer our selves in Uranus in Taurus. Follow his lead.
