Venus in Libra: Better Off As Two

Romantic love is an illusion. Most of us discover this truth at the end of a love affair or else when the sweet emotions of love lead us into marriage and then turn down their flames – Thomas Moore

Effective dates: August 7th- September 9th, 2018 (Retrograde ingress November 1st-December 2nd 2018)

Helios on Venus back on her same bullshit again– *Helios sits alone in his apartment, staring out at the city below him at night. He sparks up a cigarette, takes a drag and sighs heavily*

Fuck Love.

Seriously. After all, what in the hell is it any good for? Love is a neurological con job, as the meme famously says. Love is not patient, love is not kind- Love takes the most vulnerable parts of ourselves out on display and then brings in the worst possible people to rip our hearts out of our chests and stomp all over them. Love is a risk not worth taking, here in the year of our Lord 2018. Not with hookup culture, ass-on-demand or dial-a-dick, and if you can nail someone down the chances of you getting divorced within the first 5 years is 80%.

There are those who will call this a perfect time to explore love, due to them taking Venus at face value- I say they’re idiots. Yes, the goddess of romantic love is moving into the sign she rules. It’s important to remember that Venus is not the end all and be all of love, however. Venus is the idea and expression of love more than she has EVER been its reality. Venus is not passion, that is Eros; She isn’t relationships and the daily struggle to stay together that’s Psyche; She isn’t marriage because that’s Juno. Venus is just the Commedia dell’arte interpretation of love, and that’s never more easy to tell than when she goes into Libra. Love *scoffs* nah, love is dead. We never knew it. Love is a Facebook relationship status. Love is a double tap to heart your ex’s insta on the sly. Love is cheating on your partner with an escort because no one else wants them either. Love is losing it all and drinking alone. Love is a lie and a rotting corpse of what it once was. Or maybe it truly was an illusion the whole time and we were just dumb enough to buy into it.

As we are in eclipse season, our emotions are running intensely. The veil gets peeled back from our eyes and we are forced to confront the truth in front of us. As the astrology social media world loves to drone on about this year, we’ve got a rotating cast of 6-8 planets retrograde at any given time. Guess what? Next one up is Venus. That’s right, the bitch is about to be back in retrograde, and it’ll be in Scorpio of all signs. No one will be safe from the emotional meltdowns.

Consider all the time that you have already wasted on your failed relationship ventures. Stop acting out of fear and desperation– work on making yourself someone that you would want to spend the rest of your life with and stop wasting your energy on losers who only want to keep you as a quick fuck or an option (at best). Take this transit as an opportunity to elevate yourself rather than giving anyone else your time. Leave literally everyone on read.

Everyone else is going to call this transit the point that saves us from the harshness we have to deal with everywhere else- I call bullshit. The problem with both Venus and Libra is that they love trying to cover up horse shit with perfume, kicking it behind the couch rather than actually cleaning up the mess they live in. I loathe Libra because it is a damn illusion, refusing to engage with the reality of the world and choosing a peaceful and positive lie (more on the idiocy of the fake positivity culture coming soon). There will be a very strong urge to bury your head in the sand right now, avoiding things that NEED to be done. Don’t allow yourself to fall victim to this. You are not some damsel in distress that needs rescuing. Pick yourself up off the floor, take a swig of whiskey, dust yourself off and save your damn self.

I wish you would take any of this advice, but I know how tempting it is to surrender. I know you’re tired. We’ll clean up the mess in the retrograde, but don’t say I didn’t warn you….
